Áder and his Polish counterpart Andrzej Duda marked the day of Hungarian-Polish friendship in the western Hungarian town today.

At the gala, Áder said that the friendship of the two nations dates back to their founding over a thousand years ago.

“This is a friendship that has weathered gruelling world wars and political disputes and survived the dictatorships the two nations had to endure simultaneously,” Áder said.

Duda said that Poland and Hungary both strive for security, and also “a dignified, fair and honest Europe nurturing our countries’ development”. Difficulties and conflicting views on the future of Europe and the world notwithstanding, “we are the ones that succeed … that are going to make the world a better place,” he said.
